The University of Basel bids farewell to

Prof. Dr. Hanspeter Huber
Professor of Physical Chemistry

who passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 82.

Prof. Dr. Hanspeter Huber was Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Basel from 1992 to 2007. His work made important contributions to the understanding of molecular electronic structure and the simulation of condensed phases. He paid particular attention to the precise characterization of experimentally measurable quantities in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Hanspeter Huber was particularly passionate about teaching: he played a key role in introducing numerous students to the practice of electron structure calculations and molecular dynamics, which are now an integral part of chemical research. As a colleague, Hanspeter was known and appreciated for his subtle sense of humor.

With Hanspeter Huber's passing, we have lost a long-standing colleague and companion who rendered outstanding services to physical chemistry in Basel. We will honor his memory.

Our sympathy goes out to his family.
