Appointment to assistant professorship with tenure track

""

The University Council has appointed Prof. Dr. Murielle Delley as Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry.

Murielle Delley will take up her tenure-track assistant professorship on February 1, 2023. The Fribourg native has already been working at the University of Basel since October 2020 as a research group leader and since April 2021 as an assistant professor of chemistry under the SNSF PRIMA funding program.

Delley received her doctorate from ETH Zurich in 2017. In her dissertation, she deepened the understanding of how certain catalysts work, which are used, for example, in polyethylene production. For this, she received the Prix Schläfli in Chemistry from the Academy of Sciences in 2019.

She then worked for three years as a postdoc at Yale University. The 33-year-old's research is at the interface of surface chemistry, inorganic chemistry, materials chemistry and catalysis. Her plans focus on exploring catalysis through earth-rich transition metal phosphides and chalcogenides, developing interfacial electric fields as an external control element in catalysis, and building molecular-level insights and active catalysts through immobilized complexes.
